Statement about the tobacco industry

ASPIRE Aotearoa researchers consider that the tobacco industry’s activities in continuing to produce, distribute, and market highly addictive and toxic smoked tobacco products are extremely harmful to population health and create and maintain health inequities, including for Māori in Aotearoa.

ASPIRE Aotearoa and its researchers will not engage with, work with, or accept funding from the tobacco industry and its affiliate organisations for research, advocacy, or other projects. Affiliated organisations include tobacco industry-funded research organisations such as the Foundation for a Smoke Free World. We reserve the right to exclude tobacco industry employees and affiliates from events such as seminars and webinars organised by ASPIRE Aotearoa.
