Plain tobacco packaging – the legal challenges in Australia:
Jonathan will update us on the legal challenges in Australia, the implications for international law and potential relevance to NZ’s efforts to introduce plain packaging.
Tobacco control and international trade and investment law:
Many public health advocates are concerned about the impact of international trade and investment law on tobacco control. In New Zealand, these concerns have been expressed most prominently in relation to the ongoing negotiation of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. Jonathan will discuss these concerns in relation to both existing trade and investment agreements and the proposed TPPA.
WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC):
Jonathan will discuss the implementation of the FCTC over its eight years in force, and the major challenges and opportunities ahead.
There will also be an opportunity to chat with Jonathan after the seminar thanks to the support of the Cancer Society and Smokefree Coalition in providing refreshments at the end of the presentation.
