Modelling the impacts of tobacco denicotinisation on achieving the Smokefree 2025 goal in Aotearoa New Zealand

Article

A new paper led by Professor Nick Wilson has been published in the New Zealand Medical Journal. It explores the potential impact of denicotinisation of tobacco products as proposed in the Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 Action Plan. This preliminary high-level modelling study suggests a mandated-denicotinisation policy could plausibly achieve the Smokefree 2025 goal for all population groups, particularly if supported by other measures proposed in the action plan such as reduced retail supply and enhanced mass media campaigns and cessation support.
